Why black and white?

I took this image today and instantly fell in love with it. At the time it was lightly raining and a little chill in the house, and I took this image while sitting on the floor of my room after I had just read that Black and white photograpy comes out best when it is a little overcast so I thought I would see if they where correct. For me it remind me of why I love black and white photography so much. I love the lighting on the design of the wardrobe from the window just behind it and the way this creates a shadow on the door handle and the deeper parts of the design. I feel it bring life to the image even though it was a really simple shot.
